Matthieu Arseneau joined National Bank of Canada in 2005 and has been a member of the Economy and Strategy Group since 2009. As Deputy Chief Economist, his responsibilities include writing analyses of trends in the North American economy and contributing to the development of forecasting scenarios. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the CIRANO. Before joining the Economy and Strategy team, Mr. Arseneau worked in risk management at National Bank Financial Group, where his responsibilities included analysis of a range of Canadian industries and development of quantitative tools for risk modelling. He previously worked at the Research Chair in Taxation and Public Finance at the Université de Sherbrooke, gaining expertise in areas including the impact of demographic change on the economy and public finances. Mr. Arseneau holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Université de Montréal and a master’sdegree in economics from the Université du Québec à Montréal.
Elmer is responsible for the Canadian ETF trading business at RBC. Mr. Atagu has been an ETF market marker since 2018 and was a cross-asset macro strategist prior to trading ETFs. He holds a master’s degree in mathematical finance and a bachelor of electrical engineering.
David Cheng joined BMO Capital Markets in 2016 as a quantitative and technical Research Associate. He was promoted to analyst in 2021, covering ETF and single equity research. David provides customized portfolio construction screens for the purpose of detecting shifts in investment themes and identifying suitable rotational opportunities. David has a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
Morley joined Scotiabank in 1997 and has held increasingly senior sales and trading roles in Equities, Money Markets and Foreign Exchange. Morley was appointed Director, North American Equity Hybrid Sales and Trading in November 2019 after building the Canadian Equity Hybrids Group (convertible debentures and preferred shares) into a leader in the Canadian capital markets. In 2022, he joined the ETF Services team to build the Bank’s coverage of this dynamic and growing product.
Morley is a graduate of the MBA Co-op Program at the Odette School of Business at the University of Windsor and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) holder and a member of the Toronto CFA Society. He is an active board member of the Institutional Equity Traders Association of Toronto and proudly serves as a volunteer in the Out of the Cold program run out St. Andrew’s Church in Toronto.
Ian de Verteuil has a long career in the investment business. He started as a fundamental analyst with a Canadian broker dealer in 1987 and for much of the next 30+ years was a top-ranked analyst as measured by various external rating services, including Brendan Wood (BW), Greenwich and Starmine. Over that period, he was a top-ranked analyst in multiple sectors, including banking, insurance, consumer products and special situations. In the most recent BW survey, he was ranked as the best Equity Strategist in Canada. His career has included a period at the CPP Investment Board as Head of Fundamental Research where he was responsible for developing its fundamental research capability and integration with quantitative approaches. Further, he spent two years as Global Head of Research at a Canadian competitor, managing 70+ fundamental and quantitative analysts and its Economics department, with professionals located in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. Mr. de Verteuil joined CIBC Capital Markets in 2014. In addition to his involvement with various stock selection, pension and asset management committees, Mr. de Verteuil is focused on thematic research. He is responsible for research into a variety of topics, including Macro Fundamental, Quantitative, ESG and ETFs. Mr. de Verteuil has aB.Sc. in Chemistry from McGill University and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. He is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, and moved to Canada in 1987.
Daniela is an associate on Scotiabank’s ETF Services team, where she is responsible for ETF publications, research, and client relationships. Daniela is an alum of Scotiabank’s Capital Markets Rotational Program, having the opportunity to rotate through a variety of teams, including Sustainable Finance and ETF Services. Prior to joining Scotiabank, Daniela worked as an investment advisor in Mexico for a number of years, managing clients portfolios by investing across various asset classes and investment instruments. Daniela holds a BA in Finance from ITESM (Mexico) and an MBA from Schulich School of Business.
Megan France is Director, ETF Business Development at CIBC Capital Markets. Prior to joining CIBC, Megan began her career in the US at a large investment manager then subsequently, moved to Canada and joined a Canadian based investment manager. Throughout her time in the industry, she has enjoyed working closely with clients and taking part in the continued growth of ETFs.
Valerie Grimba runs the Global ETF Sales and Strategy team at RBC Capital Markets. In this role, she is responsible for providing solutions to help RBC’s institutional clients better understand and implement ETF strategies. She also works closely with ETF issuers to help facilitate ETF trading and create markets for their ETF products.
Valerie has more than 15 years of global institutional sales and trading experience, spanning trading floors across Canada, the US and Australasia. She started her career on the institutional equities desk at Bear Stearns in 2007, followed by several years at CIBC World Markets, based in New York City. During this time, she was trading Canadian equities for US-based asset managers and hedge funds. Valerie also spent time with Bloomberg as a part of their Electronic Trading team. From there, Valerie relocated with her family to New Zealand, joining the institutional equities desk at Macquarie Global Markets before returning home to Toronto.
Valerie received her HBA with distinction from the Richard Ivey School of Business, Western University, where she was also captain of the Women’s Lacrosse team. She has attained several global market accreditations with the ability to trade on numerous international equity exchanges including Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand.
Jing joined the Global Equity Derivatives desk at BMO Capital Markets in 2010 and has since held roles in trading, market making, institutional sales, and product issuance for all Canadian ETFs. Currently, her primary role is to engage with all ETF issuers in bringing new product to market, and manage relationships as they span across various lines of business within capital markets.
Alfred is a portfolio manager and investment strategist at BMO ETFs, where he currently heads up the index equity team. His team currently manages some of the largest ETFs in Canada. In addition to his portfolio manager duties, Alfred also serves as the investment strategist for the team, putting together trade ideas and model portfolios for institutional and retail clients. Prior to moving to equities, Alfred was a lead portfolio manager on the entire fixed income BMO ETF line up and also spent a year seconded to the Bank of Canada, managing their Provincial Bond Purchase Program (PBPP), one of the central bank’s emergency asset purchase programs in 2020. Prior to joining BMO, Alfred worked at two other Canadian banks as a research analyst, focusing on macro-economics and ETFs and also worked in an institutional consultant practice of a major bank.
Warren Lovely is a Managing Director with National Bank Financial (NBF), serving as Chief Rates and Public Sector Strategist within the firm’s highly regarded Economics and Strategy group. Warren joined NBF in 2015 from CIBC, where he had worked for 15 years in a variety of roles in economics, strategy and debt underwriting. Warren had earlier worked for the Government of Canada in Ottawa, including at the Department of Finance.
Warren holds a Master’s degree in economics from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Wilfrid Laurier University. Warren is a frequent commentator on financial markets in the media and regularly speaks to investors, business groups and governments in Canada and abroad.
Patrick is Co-Head of Institutional Sales for ETFs, Portfolio Trading, Electronic Trading, and Equity Derivatives. He also heads up the Electronic Trading & Services group, which offers DEA and algorithmic trading strategies to institutional clients. He has over 25 years of trading experience.
Prior to NBF, he was with ITG Canada as a Director in their electronic brokerage group and headed up their Commission Management Services. He spent his formative years in Montreal at boutique global investment dealer Pavilion Global Markets where, as the Head of North American Equity Trading, he was instrumental in developing their portfolio trading capabilities in both Canada and the U.S.
He has been actively involved in shaping the Canadian regulatory environment through regular participation in industry comment letters and contributions to advisory committees like MSAC, MRAC, and as current co-chair of the CSTA’s Trading Issues Committee. He is a sitting member of NBF’s Best Execution Committee, which is mandated to ensure best practices in trading for all NBF client flow.
Patrick is a CFA and went to most of his classes at the University of Western Ontario.
Chris has over two decades of experience in the investment industry and currently serves as portfolio manager for derivative-based and equity-based portfolios. This includes the management and trading of options on Canadian, US and European equities and ETFs. He also manages various cross-asset portfolios, which include Canadian and US fixed income and global equities. He has taken on numerous roles since joining BMO Financial Group in 2002, including Manager of Investments for BMO Asset Management Inc. where he was responsible for mutual fund manager monitoring and selection. In this role, he was also responsible for overseeing the currency hedging program across the mutual fund platform. Chris holds a BBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business and is a CFA charterholder.
Alex Perel joined Scotiabank in 2017 as Director and Head of ETF Services. In this role, Alex leads Scotiabank’s ETF market-making and client facilitation activities in Canada. Prior to joining Scotiabank Alex led the ETF market making desk at another Canadian financial institution where he developed an expertise in Canadian equity market microstructure and regulatory affairs. He brings a comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian ETF landscape from the perspective of investors, fund sponsors and intermediaries. Alex graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelors of Mathematics degree, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a past Chair of the Canadian Security Trader Association.
Mr. Rashid covers institutional clients on the ETF Sales and Strategy desk at TD Securities. Mr. Rashid advises pensions, asset allocation teams and family offices on ETF strategies, publishes a broad array of ETF publications, and works with TD's ETF market making team in facilitating ETF orders. He joined TD Securities in 2021, and previously held various ETF roles at Invesco, a global investment manager. Hussein has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Andres Rincon is responsible for ETF and options strategy at TD Securities. Mr. Rincon advises both institutional and wealth investors on ETF and option strategies. Andres joined TD Securities in 2008, first managing credit risk for the dealer, and later as a member of the Equity Derivatives division. After four years leading equity derivatives sales and research in London, England, Andres moved back to Toronto. In 2016 Andres took on the task of expanding TD Securities’ ETF strategy platform. He is also a Chartered Market Technician (CMT).
Zachary’s current role is institutional ETF sales. Before joining BMO, Zachary worked for another Canadian bank where he managed both ETF issuer relationships and institutional coverage. Prior to that, he was on the Financing and Delta-1 Solutions desk at Global Bank. Zachary holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University and is a CFA Charterholder.
Jin Yan joined the Portfolio Strategy team as an ETF analyst at CIBC Capital Markets in 2021. Prior to that, she worked at another Canadian bank for seven years, in ETF Sales and Trading and also in Equity Research covering the energy industry. In her role, she advises institutional and retail investors on incorporating ETFs in their portfolios. Her research focus areas include innovations and developments in the ETF industry, implementing investment strategies using ETFs, and structural benefits associated with the ETF wrapper.
Ms. Yan holds a BBA in Finance from Simon Fraser University and is a CFA charterholder.
